OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH AND SAFETY MANAGEMENT SYSTEM
ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety Standard was published in March 2018 - with a three-year migration period up to 2021, replacing over BS OHSAS 18001 which specified requirements for an occupational health and safety management system globally. After March 2021, BS OHSAS 18001 will totally be withdrawn and all organizations will continue with this new standard.
In an organization which applies a management system as per this standard, health and safety risks will be defined and accident risks will be lowered. ISO 45001 aims to reduce of risks, increase the safety of employees and form a perspective to organizations for creating more safer working conditions.
ISO 45001 standard follows the similar system approach like other ISO management systems such as ISO 14001 or ISO 9001 which are accepted on global level. The standard had been prepared in line with Annex SL structure with the updated revisions and provides a better integration with other ISO system standards.
The standard includes new concepts like context of the organization, leadership, risks & opportunities, documented information and others; also focuses more to risk management and continuous improvement.
